"How did it know?" The shuffle function can often produce some amazing choices for you—sometimes, it's seems it's so right on. But, there are occasions when you need a little predictability to keep you going at the gym or to entertain the crowd at your party. We feel the sites below offer you the best selection of FREE downloads in the form of podcasts, mixtapes, DJ mixes, etc. Some are available through iTunes. We welcome your suggestions for where to find others and we'll give you credit for pointing it out: submissions@groovemine.com.![]()
[FREE PODCASTS from Anticon Records]
The podcasts available from Anticon are as genre-crossing as their roster of artists and the music they produce. The podcasts reside on their home page, but the link above takes you to their RSS feed page where you can find the download links PLUS tracklists for some of them which are not available on the home page.

[FREE MIX SESSIONS from Daily Session]
Daily Session is a blog dedicated to bridging the gap between artist and audience in New York City's 'underground.' Purveyors of funky electronic & dance, the mixes from DS also draw from old soul, jazz, and independent hip hop. The site receives contributions from many of the local record stores. Most, if not all, of the mixes have accompanying tracklists. Make sure to click the "Previous Entries" link at the bottom of the page to go through all of their archives.

[FREE MIXES form Fact]
Fact Magazine out of London avoids the shameless hype you find coming from many of the British music magazines and their website has compiled quite an impressive inventory of mixes/podcasts by DJs and bands. Certainly heavy on the electronic/dance tip, there are nearly 100 to choose from. At first glance, the mixes that have caught our attention are from Cold Cave, The xx, Horsemeat Disco, Cocadisco, DJ T, The Emperor Machine, Subway, In Flagranti, & Kitsuné.

[FREE PODCASTS from Fader]
Like the music they cover, the music podcasts range from electronic to rock to hip hop to dancehall. There's a podcast for for every issue plus a lot of others.

Flavorpill is an e-newsletter and website that highlights the (uh) hip culture in a handful of U.S. cities and London. They frequently (weekly?) publish and post the Falvorpill Mixtape which is always a good collection of indie music of all flavors. Unfortunately, we've been unable to find a single page or section of the website that is a store house for all of the installments. You can subscribe to any number of their e-newsletters here, but none are specific to the Mixtape. Below are direct links to some of 2010's initial installments. For the others, you'll have to Google for them.

Paige Maguire is a busy woman, working as a designer, DJ, writer, editor AND the Director of Marketing & Development at WOXY. Don't miss each of the four volumes from her DJ sets at Chain Drive in Austin featuring post-punk, proto-punk and general punk rock.

[FREE PODCASTS from KEXP]
KEXP's Music That Matters bi-weekly podcast brings you an exclusive mix of new music from the world's best independent artists from one of the world's best indie radio stations. They seem to keep their library up to date on iTunes, but if you download the casts from the linked page above, you can find tracklists for each.

[FREE PODCASTS from Muzzle of Bees]
Milwaukee-based blogger Ryan Matteson co-hosts a podcast with Ryan Schleicher on 91.7 WMSE each week. Aside from great music, you'll find interviews with bands/artists that have included Langhorne Slim, Nicole Atkins, Shepherd Express, Strand of Oaks, and others.

[FREE MIXTAPE from Phaseone]
St. Louis producer Phaseone has been getting quite a bit of press lately for his numerous remixes, most notably those of Animal Collective, Radiohead, and Fool’s Gold. He’s released a free mixtape White Collar Crime which includes the aforementioned tracks as well as a host of other remixes and new tracks of his own.

[FREE PODCASTS from Resident Advisor]
Resident Advisor is online magazine based in Europe and dedicated to electronic club music. Podcasts once available on RA include mixes from Matias Aguayo, Frankie Knuckles, an Erol Alkan. The site throws a lot of information at you on any given page making it hard to locate something you're looking for. Go to the page link above, selected the podcast you want by clicking on the image, go midway down the page that you've come to and look for the options to download "via iTunes" or "via Direct Download."

[FREE podcasts from Rinse FM]
Rinse FM is a London pirate radio station. It also broadcasts over the Internet. The station plays grime, dubstep, UK garage, Drum and Bass and other genres. Founded in 1994, it provided the first exposure to Dizzee Rascal and Wiley and later provided a home for dubstep DJs like Skream, Kode9, and Plastician. Simon Hampson of Fact Magazine wrote in 2007: "Without Rinse, Grime and Dubstep would be very different: indeed, it’s fair to say that they might not even exist at all." The station has been described as London's biggest pirate radio station and without doubt the world's leading grime station." There are a ton of podcasts hosted on this site...if you a fan of these genres, you'll be elated at the finds.
