Seattle and surrounding areas have produced stellar indie music for years. This has, no doubt, contributed to its place as a huge destination city for touring musicians from all over the globe. Capturing the essence of the performance for both homegrown talent, as well as what the best the world has to offer, is what photographer Nate Watters has been doing recently for Groovemine.com. Catch slide shows of Nate's work for The Ruby Suns, The Big Pink, and Vampire Weekend and look for more from him here soon.

Consistent with the name, this column surveys the listening stations of local record stores. Get out from behind your desk, or wherever you listen to/sample music online, and stroll through the aisles of a store near you. Listen to any number of albums (in their entirety, if you have the time) before you decide to buy. See what the recently re-opened Everyday Music in Capitol Hill has to offer here.

AS WE BEGAN TO PULL OUR SITE TOGETHER LAST YEAR, one of the resources we here at Groovemine.com felt it was important to provide was a directory of the local record stores in the cities that we feature. While we embrace all that the digital realm affords us, we simultaneously lament the friendly and inspirational exchanges with fellow music junkies that would more often take place at our local record store. We sympathize and empathize with the plight (demise?) of these small businesses as the digitalization of the music biz has seen the larger retail chains suffer, too.

David Miranda, manager of Everyday Music's Capitol Hill store—an even more vast all-things-to-all-people place abounding with new and used CDs, vinyl, cassettes, DVDs, and audio accessories—says, ”˜The stuff customers are bringing in is unbelievable.’”

Recent transplant Carolyn Manney acquaints herself with her new city by exploring the two things Seattle is, perhaps, best known for: coffee and music. Read her report which provides an overview of the music programs offered by our favorite coffee houses in Capitol Hill, a neighborhood which boasts some great places for roasts and tunes of all different flavors... We don't try—nor are we capable of—being "THE" music guide for all things indie in Seattle. So, when we stumble upon other great resources, we're more than happy to pass along our finds. Three Imaginary Girls has grown to be a robust online magazine that reaches beyond music into other contemporary cultural occupations, political commentary, and love advice. It was voted "MVP of Seattle Music 2004" by readers of Seattle Weekly. Sound on the Sound is a fantastic Seattle-based music blog. Well-designed and noticeably the product of great inspiration, it is featured in groovemine.com's music blog round-up. If you enjoy meandering your way through tons of content and want to access concert schedule info all on one site, The Stranger online is your best bet.
