Born Like This by DOOM
LABEL: Lex
Daniel Dumile sheds yet another ego, leaving MF (metal face) behind, and clinging onto the more resolute, DOOM. The mysteriously masked artist just released his first album in four years, “Born Like This”. With little known about his personal life, DOOM firmly stands as one of underground hip-hop’s most consistent emcees. He has through the years been a part of several genius collaborative projects including Madvillain and DANGERDOOM. The new album is witty, just like DOOM himself. With unorthodox rhymes, DOOM takes sample-heavy style to a lighter level. The album's name was inspired by Charles Bukowski’s poem “Dinosauria We”, by which is sampled in “Cellz”, and backed by eerie beats that resembles a staticky old radio broadcast. Other songs on the album such as “Still Dope” stay true to his old school reputation. The album’s ripe sound gives a near perfect layout to DOOM’s wordplay of super villain metaphors and makes a masterpiece of rhythm samples.
