An unapologetic candy coated album with adorable falsetto tones teasing out lovely and foolish lyrics fill this lovely LP. Coming so quick on a critically and popularly adored EP debut from last September, there was some skepticism if they could pull off the same quality. Can lightning strike twice? Well have no fear, their same joyful and saccharine melodies elevate the listener with a youthful surge of energy.
Another reminder of why there is so much good to look at in the Massachusetts scene, Passion Pit is another Cambridge originating band. The songs wander between the more pure electronic sound to a more subtle tonal composition on other songs, but the strength of the beats on every track is there. Pressing on like a marching army, the drums here are wonderfully ponderous even in the most simple patterns the band uses.
There are many gems on Manners, enough to make it hard to choose one or two to mention. "Moth's Wings" has a lovely presence, its a rich feeling that also has that breakout hit potential sound. The mastering of "Sleepyhead" off their EP Chunk of Change is a delightful treat in the latter half of the album. "Little Secrets" really shows off their most sugary and lovely sides in the heavy synth and keyboard lines wonderfully.
